Mumbai Crime News: Police Registers Criminal Case Against 22 Motorists For Drink & Drive In Three Days

The Mumbai police registered FIRs against 22 motorists for drunk driving on the road under Section 125.

Mumbai: The police filed criminal cases against 22 motorists for drunk driving in the last three days. The information was shared by the officials on Monday. The police said at least 22 motorists have been booked under Section 125 (endangering the life or personal safety of others) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Motor Vehicles Act from April 4 to 6, the official added.

The police mentioned that the process of cancelling the licences of the people is underway with the traffic police. For driving in a drunk state on the road, as per a news agency PTI report.

The official said that in the last few years, the cases of drink and drive have seen a sharp rise, which reason why they decided to register the criminal cases. They also added that the special drives and check posts have not had the desired impact.

Businessman Booked For Drunk Driving

The Worli police have arrested a 30-year-old man for drunk and dangerous driving after his car crashed into a divider on the Bandra Worli Sea Link on Sunday around 1:43 AM. A resident of Ghatkopar, Hetul Ramjiyani was travelling with two friends—Parth Limbani, 32, and Nareshkumar Pokar, 47, both from Kutch, Gujarat—when the incident occurred on northbound Road No. 7.

The police found Ramjiyani's vehicle mounted on the divider and suspected he was intoxicated due to a strong smell of alcohol. The victims got minor injuries. Limbani and Pokar received treatment at Paras Nursing Home in Kandivli West. A medical test conducted at JJ Hospital confirmed that he was indeed under the influence.
