Mumbai, August 21, 2026: The Ghatkopar police have arrested a 26-year-old man for allegedly possessing and intending to illegally sell e-cigarettes banned by the Government of India.

E-Cigarettes Seized

According to the police, the accused, Shyamu Shriram Gupta (26), a pan shop owner and resident of Bhatwadi, Ghatkopar West, was detained at Gopal Bhavan, Nityanand Nagar, LBS Road, Ghatkopar West, around 11 pm on August 19.

During the search, police allegedly recovered 11 ELFBAR brand electronic cigarettes (vapes) worth Rs 33,000 from his possession. The e-cigarettes were allegedly kept for unauthorised distribution and sale.

Case Registered

The police have registered a case against Gupta under Sections 3, 4 and 7 of the Prohibition of Electronic Cigarettes (Production, Manufacture, Import, Export, Transport, Sale, Distribution, Storage and Advertisement) Act, 2019. Further investigation is underway.
