Mumbai: City sees drop in Covid cases for 2nd day, 648 cases recorded on Sat

For the second consecutive day, the city witnessed a marginal drop in the daily Covid. On Saturday, 648 new infections and 15 deaths were reported. The total is at 7,19,610, while the death toll is 15,383. The doubling rate dropped to 123 days, while the weekly growth rate is 0.09%.
Meanwhile, the state witnessed a marginal rise in cases across the state on Saturday, with 9,812 new infections and 179 deaths being reported in the last 24 hours. Most of the deaths have taken place in rural areas. Doctors have attributed this to lack of facilities in rural areas.

A senior doctor from the state health department said, “Rural areas do not have good healthcare facilities. The rise in Covid deaths could be due to lack of medical care. People have to travel to urban areas for better treatment, which wastes a lot of time.”
However, Dr. Avinash Supe, chairman of the state’s death audit committee said, just because a patient has been diagnosed with Covid, doesn’t mean the cause of death is the infection.
