The Kalyan Dombivli Municipal Corporation (KDMC) has bagged the first position jointly with Varanasi in the 'Covid-19 innovation award'. The award was given by the India smart city mission 2020 which was organised across India by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, Government of India.
On August 25, 2020, the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affair conducted a smart city award competition with different categories. Around 100 smart cities participated in the competition. The winners were decided as per the innovative and quality work done by the corporation.
Smart Kalyan Dombivli Development Corporation limited had submitted the nomination for the category "Covid Innovation Award", presenting the innovative work carried by the corporation during the first wave of the pandemic.
Among the 40 cities from the second phase, only four including Kalyan Dombivli, Vadodara, Agra and Varanasi were selected for the covid innovative award. The KDMC was the only municipal corporation in Maharashtra to be shortlisted for the final round of the Covid-19 innovation award.
Vijay Suryavanshi, Municipal commissioner, KDMC claims its an honour for the corporation. He said he is thankful to all the staff including doctors, paramedical staff, family doctors, medical health department staff and other staff of the corporation, non-government organisation and counsellors, legislative members who helped in the team works to make the innovative work successful.
"It's all teamwork that has shown a result and we are in the first phase of appreciation. In the future we will fight hard to bag good positions in other categories too which includes sanitation, waste management, traffic management and others,” added Suryavanshi.
