Mumbai Based Flautist Pandit Ronu Majumdar Sets Guinness World Record With Largest Hindustani Classical Band Of 546 Musicians

Majumdar recently composed ‘Samvet' and performed it with a band of 546 musicians at the historic Gwalior Fort in Madhya Pradesh. The composition was made up of Miyan Malhar, Miyan ki todi, and Darbari ragas.

Renowned Mumbai-based flautist Pandit Ronu Majumdar made history by leading an extraordinary symphony of 546 musicians at the historic Gwalior Fort, Madhya Pradesh achieving a Guinness World Record. The achievement marked a monumental moment for Indian classical music, as the performance was officially recognized as the largest symphony in the world performing a single composition.

Majumdar recently composed ‘Samvet' and performed it with a band of 546 musicians at the historic Gwalior Fort in Madhya Pradesh. The composition was made up of Miyan Malhar, Miyan ki todi, and Darbari ragas. The composition entered the Guinness World Records as the ‘Largest Hindustani Classical Band’ registered in the Guinness World Records.

“This is truly a landmark moment in my life. To have 546 musicians creating the largest Indian orchestra and becoming a part of the Guinness World Records is a humbling experience. I also want to express my sincere thanks to my talented musicians, whose dedication and skill were key to making this performance a success.," said Majumdar expressing gratitude to Madhya Pradesh Government, the Cultural Department, and Chief Minister Shri Mohan Yadav and Union minister Jyotiraditya Scindia.

Pandit Ronu Majumdar's musical journey began under the guidance of his father, Dr. Bhanu Majumdar, and further flourished under the mentorship of Late Pt. Laxman Prasad Jaipurwale and the legendary Pt. Vijay Raghav Rao. With his deep-rooted connection to the Maihar Gharana, Majumdar mastered the flute at a young age and has since carved a niche for himself in Indian classical music.

An innovator in the world of New-Age Music, Majumdar has released numerous successful albums, including  ‘A Traveller’s Tale’, ‘Koi Akela Kahan’, and the musical track for the Hollywood film ‘Primary Colours’. He has collaborated with global icons such as Pt. Ravi Shankar, George Harrison, and guitarist Ry Cooder. His diverse body of work also includes Heart to Heart, Reverie, Jugalbandi series, Meditation in Brindavan, Song of Nature, as well as international albums like Fascinoma, In Search of Life, Ethereal Rhythms, and Mysticism on Wood Wind.

In recognition of his contributions to music, Ronu Majumdar has been honored with The Prestigious Sangeet Natak Academy Award, The Aditya Vikram Birla Award and the Life-Time Achievement Award by Sahara India.
