Mumbai: A 20-year-old woman was allegedly raped by an auto-rickshaw driver and later found at a railway station with stones and a surgical blade inserted into her vagina, wrapped in plastic. The incident occurred late Tuesday and has led to the driver’s arrest on charges of rape. However, preliminary police investigations suggest the case is more complex, with indications the woman may have inserted the objects herself.

What Exactly Happened With The Woman?

The woman, who resides in Nalasopara, a township within the Mumbai Metropolitan Region, allegedly took these actions to avoid being scolded or beaten by her parents for being raped. According to an NDTV report citing police sources, she and the driver had gone to Arnala Beach, about 12 km from her home, intending to spend the night there.

However, as she lacked a valid ID, they could not secure a hotel room and spent the night on the beach instead. It was during this time that the alleged rape occurred, after which the driver fled.

Woman Allegedly Inserted Knife, Stones In Her Vagina

Panicked and distressed, the woman reportedly returned to Nalasopara railway station but feared facing her family. In an attempt to avoid confrontation, she purchased a surgical knife and inserted it, along with stones, into her vagina. Experiencing severe pain and bleeding, she contacted local police, who filed a rape case against the driver and took her to the hospital.

Initially, the woman claimed to be an orphan from Varanasi under the care of her uncle, but further investigation revealed inconsistencies in her story. Her father disclosed that she had previously filed two rape complaints in 2023 at Nirmal Nagar and Shivaji Nagar police stations in Mumbai.

Further Investigation Underway

Police believe the woman may be suffering from mental health issues, which could have influenced her actions and statements. The accused auto-rickshaw driver has been arrested and further inquiries are underway to establish the sequence of events and verify the woman's claims.
