On Friday, a 22-year-old youth was arrested by police for allegedly chopping off the thumb of a 30-year-old man, leading to paralysis in his left hand. The 22-year-old claimed that he wanted to be a gangster.
According to the Hindustan Times, the accused has been identified as Vaibhav Surve, who resides in Wadala and was arrested from Ratnagiri where he was hiding. The complainant has been identified as KJ Kuttegauda, who runs a food stall in Wadala. Kuttegauda told cops that he was paying protection money to Surve’s henchmen. The police have said that Vaibhav wanted to copy gangster Manya Surve.
The incident took place in December last year when Vaibhav Surve went to Wadala where Kuttegauda lived and started scaring local resident by swirling a sword while doing that he claimed he was Manya. After sometime when Vaibhav tried to fling the sword towards a car belonging to Kuttegauda’s friend, at that time Kuttegauda tried to stop Surve. Then Vaibhav Surve turned towards Kuttegauda and cut his left hand and when he tried to stop the attack with his right hand, Vaibhav Surve cut off his thumb.
After the attack, Kuttegauda’s friend rushed him to the hospital, where he recuperating. Kuttegauda approached deputy commissioner of police (DCP) on February 28 to register a complaint against Surve. he told cops that he was fearing for his life as Vaibhav’s goons threatened him. After the complaint was registered the cops started tracing Surve and tracked him in Ratnagiri, after which a team of police was sent there and arrested Surve.
