Mumbai: Till now, fraudsters have been reported to have changed the customer care numbers of many companies online, now in one of the first cases, fraudsters have duped a job seeker by hacking into online job search site. Pydhonie police have arrested two accused identified as Bhagirath Tyagi (28) and Zakir Hussain (30) from Jhansi in Uttar Pradesh for duping a youth Shamroz Nadeem (21) of Rs 2,85,300 promising him of securing him a job at the JW Mariott hotel, in Juhu.
According to the statement released by the police, ‘the accused cheated a youth in the name of giving him job as a manager at the J W Mariott hotel and had demanded Rs 2,85,300’. The Pydhonie police said, “After completing the Hotel Management studies, Nadeem worked in a hotel at Saudi Arabia, from August 2016 to October 2018, after which he uploaded his job profile on Monster.com. The dupers having an eye on their prey, called up Nadeem and made him an offer immediately.”
As per Nadeem’s statement, after he recieved a call, he immediately showed interest and confirmed it.Then victim got another call from a second person claiming to be Alam. He was asked to be prepared for a telephonic interview and was promised result will be declared on Naukri.com. On November 20, 2018 a man named as Vivek called Nadeem and told him, he was selected for the job and an offer letter was sent on his email.
Nadeem alleged, a third caller, Anupama, demanded Rs 71,896 as Goods and Service Tax, which is when he suspected something was wrong. At that time, Nadeem said, “I called the hotel to confirm about the opening and his candidature. The hotel informed me I was cheated and I promptly approached Pydhonie police station to lodge a complaint.” Upon investigation, the police learnt the accused was using different sim card numbers for making calls to dupe job aspirants.
With the inputs from the informers and other technical inquiry, Pydhonie police team was sent to Jhansi to arrest two accused, Bhagirath Tyagi (28) and Zakir Hussain (30). The Pydhonie police also seized 15 mobile phones, ATM cards of six different banks, two pen drives, headphones and cash worth Rs 1 lakh from the accused. Pydhonie police took a transit remand to bring them to Mumbai from Jhansi and produced them before the court, where they were sent in police custody till Feb 2.
