\Mumbai Metro has found an unlikely new staff member a ginger tabby cat who appears to have made Gundavli Metro station its own little workplace.
Mumbai resident Sandesh Samant shared a picture of the relaxed feline lounging on a polished black ledge inside the station and jokingly asked MMMOCL to give the “pure soul” an official position, pointing out that it was currently “working for free”.
The cat, seemingly completely unbothered by the attention, can be seen comfortably stretched out on the ledge as commuters move around in the background.
Mumbai Metro Gives Cat An ‘Official’ Position
The Mumbai Metro operator joined in on the fun with a reply that instantly became the highlight of the exchange.
“That’s our Chief Feline Officer,” the operator said, joking that the cat’s responsibilities include station inspections, commuter observation and sitting exactly where everyone can admire them.
“So far, performance has been purrfect,” the metro operator added.
The playful response quickly turned an ordinary picture of a station cat into a wholesome social media moment, with users unable to stop giggling over the feline’s newly assigned “duties”.
‘Meowdavli’ To ‘End-To-End Feline Security’
The comments section soon became a playground of cat-related jokes, with one user suggesting the station be renamed “Meowdavli”, while another called the cat a “Santri billi” or sentry cat.
Others joked about its supposed security responsibilities, with comments such as “End to end feline security” and suggestions that another cat was stationed at Kashigaon Metro station.
One commuter said they had been seeing the cat for around three years and recalled that it once had a companion.
Another said they always stopped to meet the cat whenever travelling from Gundavli, describing it as “bohot cute”.
Several users simply shared their delight, calling the feline a “daily dose of serotonin”, while others joked that it should be “fined for being so cute”. One commenter quipped that the cat appeared to be saying, “no photos pls”.
Netizens Share Their Own Metro Cat Stories
The post also prompted people to share sightings of other cats around Mumbai’s public spaces. Some users posted pictures of similar station cats, while others recalled encountering friendly strays at hospitals and other places.
A few users even saluted the newly minted “feline officer”, adding to the playful mood of the conversation.
While there were a handful of dissenting comments questioning the celebration of stray animals, the overwhelming response was positive, with most users appreciating both the cat and the metro operator’s humorous interaction.
A Little Wholesome Break From Mumbai’s Daily Rush
The post has reportedly crossed 50,000 views, with hundreds of likes, reposts and replies, turning the Gundavli station cat into a small social media celebrity.
For commuters used to Mumbai’s packed trains, hurried journeys and daily rush, the ginger cat’s leisurely station routine appears to have provided an unexpectedly cheerful moment.
