Mumbai: Maharashtra Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik announced that the state government has taken a major step to promote electric vehicles (EVs) and boost eco-friendly transportation.
Under the Maharashtra Electric Vehicle Policy 2025, the government has approved the disbursement of substantial incentive funds to various stakeholders. To increase demand for EVs, subsidies worth over ₹2.51 crore have been sanctioned to companies such as Bajaj Auto Ltd., Mahindra Electric Mobility Ltd., and Euler Motors Pvt. Ltd. for three-wheelers.
In addition, major urban transport bodies—including Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST), Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMT), Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPL), Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation, Navi Mumbai Municipal Transport (NMMT), and Thane Municipal Transport (TMT)—have collectively received ₹4.55 crore to strengthen public e-transport systems.
Furthermore, over ₹4.45 crore in incentives will be distributed to companies such as Ather Energy Pvt. Ltd., TVS Motor Company, and Chetak Technology for electric two- and three-wheelers.

The government clarified that the funds are being allocated from the 2025–26 budget, while a provision of ₹246 crore has been earmarked for EV promotion in the 2026–27 financial year.
The move is expected to significantly accelerate EV adoption in Maharashtra and play a crucial role in reducing pollution, the minister added.
