MUMBAI: Three persons sustained injuries after a compound wall of a chawl in Ghatkopar crashed on the intervening night of Thursday and Friday following heavy rainfall. The Santacruz observatory recorded 83 mm of rainfall on Thursday.
The injured have been identified as daily wage workers Altaf Shaikh (35), Rizwan Kalanigi (19) and Noor Jahan Ansari (35). They were rushed to Rajawadi Hospital and were discharged after treatment. The incident took place at Macchi Market near LBS Marg.
A civic official said a few other shanties were also affected due to the incident and some of the residents have been shifted to a local BMC school.
According to the BMC, 11 incidents of wall collapse have been reported in Mumbai in the last 24 hours.
The civic body said the island city recorded 3.14 mm of rain on Friday, the eastern suburbs recorded 3.49 mm of rain and western suburbs recorded 2.08 mm of rain.
