Maharashtra: A terrifying incident was caught on CCTV in Karanja city, where a stray cow violently attacked two women and their school-going children near Amar Chowk in the Ram Temple area.

The shocking attack occurred on the morning of Independence Day (15 August) and has raised serious concerns about stray cattle roaming in populated areas. CCTV footage from a nearby residence captured the moment when the two women were walking with their children, and the cow suddenly charged at them.

One of the women displayed extraordinary courage by confronting the animal and shielding the children. She managed to escape without injury. The other woman and children were also seen attempting to flee as onlookers gathered at the scene.

Surge in Malaria, Dengue and Chikungunya Cases as State Records 17,281 Infections in 7 Months

In a separate news story from Maharashtra, the state is witnessing a concerning surge in mosquito-borne illnesses such as malaria, dengue, and chikungunya. As per official data, a total of 17,281 infections have been reported over the past seven months, averaging nearly 82 new cases per day.

Sharp Rise in Malaria and Chikungunya

Statistics from the State Health Department indicate a significant rise in malaria and chikungunya cases compared to the previous year. As of July 2024, the state had recorded 9,874 malaria cases, whereas this year, the number has increased to 11,425, reflecting a 16% rise.

Similarly, chikungunya cases have also seen a spike, rising from 1,189 cases last year to 1,512 cases this year, which marks a 27% increase.

On the other hand, dengue cases have slightly declined. In the last seven months, 4,344 dengue cases have been reported, fewer than the corresponding period last year.
