Marking the occasion of Shivchaturya Din, a foot and cycle yatra from Agra to Rajgad commenced today under the Garudzhep campaign. At Agra’s iconic Red Fort, Maharashtra’s Cultural Affairs and Information Technology Minister Adv. Ashish Shelar extended best wishes to the cyclists by flagging them off with the saffron flag.

Commemorating Shivaji Maharaj’s Escape

The initiative has been organized to commemorate the brilliant and historic escape of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj from Aurangzeb’s captivity in Agra to Rajgad, highlighting its inspirational and historical significance.

Eleven-Day Yatra

Spanning 11 days, from August 17 to 27, 2025, this cycle yatra will conclude at Rajgad with a torch rally. Among the enthusiastic cyclists are several senior citizens aged 60 and above, including the remarkable 78-year-old Nirupamatai Bhave, along with nine other women participants — a special highlight of this campaign. The yatra began today with tributes paid to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.

Historic Ritual at Red Fort

On this occasion, a unique ritual was performed at the equestrian statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj in front of Agra’s Red Fort. Water collected from 101 forts across Maharashtra was used for the ceremonial abhishek by Adv. Ashish Shelar and MLA Rahul Kul, followed by a floral tribute to the great king.

Minister Shelar’s Address

Speaking on the occasion, Adv. Ashish Shelar said, “The daring escape of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, the founder of Swarajya, from Agra was a resounding blow to Aurangzeb’s empire. This day stands as a testimony to Maharaj’s ingenuity, valour and unmatched courage, inspiring the entire world. Henceforth, the Maharashtra government will commemorate this day as ‘Shivchaturya Din’, with the necessary funds being allocated for its celebration.”

Recognition for Organisers

Minister Shelar also lauded the Garudzhep Mission Sanstha for hosting this grand celebration of Shivchaturya Din in Agra. He extended heartfelt appreciation to founder Maruti Gole and the entire organizing team for their commendable efforts.

Dignitaries Present

Uttar Pradesh cabinet minister Yogendra Upadhyay, Maharashtra MLAs Rahul Kul and Sanjay Upadhyay, Garudzhep Mission Sanstha founder Maruti Gole, president Rakesh Vidhate, office bearers, and a large number of devotees of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj were present on the occasion.
