In a significant development for Mumbai's rail infrastructure, the Mumbai Rail Vikas Corporation (MRVC) has successfully executed a critical 2-hour 25-minute operation, which took place between 01:25 am and 03:50 am. This operation marked a major milestone in the ongoing Kalyan-Badlapur quadrupling project.
According to an official , during the period, the MRVC team launched 16 massive girders for various Road Over Bridges (ROBs) and Foot Over Bridges (FOBs) as part of the Kalyan-Badlapur Quadrupling Project.
"This achievement represents a vital step in enhancing the region's transportation network" he said."This operation included the launch of 5 girders with a span of 36 meters for the ROB at level crossing gate number 4, located between Kalyan and Ambernath.
Additionally, 7 girders, each spanning 24 meters, were launched for a 12-meter wide FOB at Ulhasnagar, and 4 girders with a span of 31 meters were placed for a 6-meter wide FOB at the same location" further added official.
Apart from that in a simultaneous operation at Neral, 6 more girders were launched as part of a separate project.
This included 4 girders spanning 16 meters for an FOB and 2 girders, each 19.5 meters in span, for another FOB in the area. This operation, carried out under stringent time constraints, underscores MRVC's excellent coordination.
The successful completion of the task is expected to significantly improve passenger convenience and operational efficiency once the infrastructure upgrades are fully implemented" said Sunil Udasi, Chief Public Relations of of Mumbai Rail Vikas corporation."The successful completion of this task highlights MRVC's unwavering commitment to improving the region's transportation infrastructure," he said.
"Despite the challenges posed by tight schedules, our team has demonstrated exceptional skill and teamwork to accomplish this feat."The Kalyan-Badlapur quadrupling project, which has a total sanctioned cost of Rs 1,509.87 crore, is progressing as planned and is expected to be completed by December 2026.
Upon completion, the project will enhance connectivity, reduce travel time, and improve overall commuter experience in the region."As part of Mumbai’s broader effort to modernize its rail infrastructure, the MRVC's work on the Kalyan-Badlapur section promises long-term benefits for commuters and the region’s development" said another official.

At ROB between Ulhasnagar and Ambernath , a 500-ton capacity crane was deployed, and a team of 35 workers and officials executed the task.
At Ulhasnagar, two cranes, with capacities of 300 tons and 250 tons respectively, were utilized. A total of 39 workers and officials were involved in the operation.
