Mumbai: A special operation is being carried out by the Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) with the help of the local police to search for Bangladeshi citizens living illegally in various places in Maharashtra and take action against them.

In December, the ATS got 19 cases registered against such illegal immigrants in which 43 Bangladeshi nationals were arrested, officials said on Tuesday.

As part of the said operation, ATS officials, on the basis of discreet information and with the help of local police in Vikhroli, Navi Mumbai, Akola, Nanded and Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar carried out searches at the locations of Bangladeshi nationals who entered India illegally.

"In the past four days a total of five cases have been registered in various police stations so far under the Foreign Nationals Act and Passport Act.
