Mumbai: The Congress on Sunday suspended its three-time MLA Sudhir Thambe, days after he withdrew from the biennial legislative council poll race despite being named the party’s official candidate. Mr Tambe had announced that his son, Satyajit, will be in the fray from the constituency currently represented by him.
In a release issued by the party, Tariq Anwar, Member-Secretary, Disciplinary Action Committee, AICC, said with the approval of Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, the committee has decided to place Mr Tambe under suspension, pending an enquiry against him.
The Congress faced a major embarrassment following Mr Tambe’s move of not following the party's decision and instead fielding his son as an independent. State Congress chief Nana Patole had already declared that the party would not support “rebel’’ Satyajit – who has served as the chief of Congress youth wing – in the Jan 30 poll.
