Thane: A 19-year-old girl and a 22-year-old boy from Diva in Thane district have been admitted to the Criticare Hopsital here, after the boy attacked the girl with a knife on her throat and later attempted to commit suicide by slitting his own throat, the police said today.

No offence has been registered with the police in connection with the incident, the police said, adding that it was the fall out of the girl turning down the boy’s proposal for marriage.

On Friday evening the boy went to the girl’s house, picked up a quarrel and attacked her with a knife during the quarrel.

Later, he attempted suicide by slitting his own throat with the knife, the police said.

Both the boy and the girl are being treated in the same hospital, the police said, adding that they were out of danger.

This is the second time such an incident took place in the city. In the last such incident, a boy whose marriage proposal was turned down by a girl attacked her with a blade on a railway bridge and attempted suicide.

Later, there was a dispute over the jurisdiction between the Thane city police and the railway police about who would register the offence. Finally, the city police took the responsibility and the issue was settled.

The incident happened in the presence of a lot of people on a busy railway bridge but nobody came to the rescue of the girl.
