Mumbai: The Khar police have registered an FIR against the office-bearers of Link Square Premises Co-operative Housing Society for allegedly failing to pay property tax to the BMC despite collecting it from members, leading to dues, including penalties, of Rs4.47 crore.
Society Comprises 198 Shops And A Restaurant
According to the FIR, the society on 33rd Road in Khar West comprises 198 shops and a restaurant. The complaint was filed by Siraj Qureshi, 55, a tours and travels businessman who bought a first-floor shop in the mall in 2009 and pays quarterly maintenance charges of Rs29,700.
The society was registered in 2007, with Abdul Mithiborwala as chairman, Tabassum Shaikh as secretary and Ashif Shaikh as treasurer. Qureshi alleged that no elections have been held since registration and the office-bearers never provided members audited financial statements or account details, while continuing to collect charges towards maintenance, property tax, electricity bills, service charges, corpus fund and other expenses.
Fire Damage In 2025 Also Raised Questions
A major fire in 2025 caused damage to the mall. The complainant alleged the office-bearers neither convened a general body meeting nor initiated repairs.
Members later allegedly discovered that property tax had not been paid to the BMC since 2019 despite collections. The complaint states Rs2.73 crore collected towards the tax was not deposited, pushing dues with penalties to Rs4.47 crore.
Members approached the Bombay High Court in 2025, following which an administrator has managed the mall since November 11, 2025.
Based on the complaint, the police last month booked Mithiborwala, Tabassum Shaikh and Ashif Shaikh.
