Accused techie stole butcher’s chopper to carry out attack
Bhayandar : The Mira Road police have arrested a 35-year-old software engineer who mounted a violent attacked with a meat chopper on a bar girl and her mother on Sunday.
According to the police, the accused has been identified as Anil Bharti (35), a resident of Navghar Road in Bhayandar (East). The brazen daylight crime was reported from the Shanti Park area of Mira Road when the victim identified as Bhavna Singh (32) was walking towards her home in Vandana Triveni building at about 11:30 am. The accused was apparently following her. A heated exchange of words took a violent turn when the accused whipped out a chopper and attacked Singh. A profusely bleeding Singh who suffered multiple injuries on her shoulder, back and face was rushed to the Bhakti Vedanta Hospital where her condition is said to be stable.
After attacking Singh, the accused proceeded to Singh’s house and attacked her mother Meena Singh (55). Fortunate to escape with minor injuries, she raised an alarm attracting attention of neighbours who nabbed Anil Bharti and handed him over to the cops.
Investigations revealed that Bhavna Singh who worked at a local orchestra bar was in a relationship with the accused for the past couple of years. Despite being married, Bharti was allegedly pressurising Singh to marry him. However, after learning about his marital status, Singh snapped ties with the accused. This angered him and in a fit of rage he apparently decided to take matters in his hand. Bharti who has been arrested and booked for attempt to murder had fled with a chopper and knife from a butcher shop in Mira Road minutes before the crime, police said. Further investigations are on.
