Gudi Padwa 2025: Vehicle Registrations Surge 31% In Maharashtra, Over 86,000 New Vehicles Hit Roads

Vehicle registrations in the state saw a significant surge during the past week, coinciding with the festive occasion of Gudi Padwa. A total of 86,814 new vehicles, including two-wheelers and four-wheelers, were registered, marking a 31% increase—20,157 more vehicles compared to 2024. In 2024, a total of 66,657 vehicles were registered across the state on the occasion of Gudi Padwa.

Gudi Padwa is considered an auspicious time for new beginnings, leading many citizens to purchase new vehicles. Registrations were carried out at various Regional and Sub-Regional Transport Offices across the state. Compared to last year, 20,157 more vehicles were registered, reflecting strong demand.

In the four-wheeler category, 22,327 vehicles were registered this year—5,188 more than in 2024—indicating a growth of around 30%. The two-wheeler segment, which includes motorcycles and scooters, saw 52,153 new registrations, up from 40,675 last year, recording an increase of 11,478 vehicles (28% growth).

The highest number of registrations was recorded at five major Regional Transport Offices (RTOs): Pune (11,056), Pimpri-Chinchwad (6,648), Nashik (3,626), Mumbai (Central) (3,154), and Thane (3,107), according to data from the Transport Department.

With the rising trend of vehicle ownership, experts predict a steady growth in the automobile sector in the coming months. Additionally, the increasing penetration of electric vehicles is expected to reshape the market dynamics, offering a promising future for sustainable mobility.
