Nagpur : State government shall act tough against the loss of mangroves near Marve beach in Malad, minister for forests Sudhir Mungantiwar assured the Legislative Council during question hour on Friday.
In a written reply to the question asked by Vijay Girkar, the minister said that debris were dumped on the mangroves forest and houses were built on the reclaimed land. Upon receipt of a complaint in this regard, the government searched for the satellite images of the area and realised that the land has been illegally reclaimed.
“A report in this regard has been sent to the concerned revenue officials of the area by the forest department and a proper action is expected in this regard,” the minister mentioned in the written reply. While answering yet another question, the minister said that encroachment over 61.18 hectare out of 107 hectare forest land have been cleared in Aurangabad and Jalna forest area.
The government will keep no stone unturned in promoting the bamboo cultivation and trade in the state, Mungantiwar assured the house while replying a query raised by Anil Sole and Nago Ganar. The government has recently released the new bamboo policy. It comprises of schemes to exempt the bamboo from trade restrictions and promoting its cultivation, the minister said.
