Mumbai : Commuters are not likely to get any relief with the reduction in the cost of CNG. Taxi union leaders have termed the drop in the prices too little to be in a position to pass on the benefit to commuters.
Mahanagar Gas Ltd reduced the price of CNG by Rs 1.05 a kg and PNG by Rs 0.54 per SCM from Thursday. Leader of Mumbai Taximen’s Union AL Quadros explained that the reduction in cost of CNG has only lead to a benefit of Rs 0.07 per km.
Quadros said that even at a profit of Rs 0.5 per km, there is a chance that the taxi owners will reduce the fare. Gargee Kelkar, a commuter, asked: “When the price of CNG goes up, unions demand a hike in the fare. Shouldn’t fares be reduced if CNG prices have gone down?”
