The Grand Memorial of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar at Indu Mill, Dadar is on track for completion by the end of 2025, according to officials from the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA). Dr. Sanjay Mukherjee (IAS), Metropolitan Commissioner of MMRDA, and Vikram Kumar (IAS), Additional Commissioner-1, recently reviewed the progress of the project during an official visit to the site.
Significant strides have been made across key components of the sprawling memorial complex, which is being developed to honor the life and legacy of the architect of the Indian Constitution, Dr. Ambedkar.
The Double Basement (Parking) structure is nearing completion at 95%, with a target date set for May 31, 2025. Other major sections are also advancing steadily:
Entrance Plaza: 88.5% complete
Lecture Hall: 78.75% complete
Library: 81% complete
Exhibition & Auditorium: 68% complete, with a targeted finish by August 31, 2025
Pedestal Building: 52.8% complete
A major highlight of the memorial will be the towering statue of Dr. Ambedkar. A 230-foot 1:1 thermocol model has already been completed, marking a crucial milestone in the statue’s development. Additional progress includes the procurement of 1,395 metric tonnes of structural steel, fabrication and erection of 155 metric tonnes of baseplates, and installation of 308 square meters of bronze paneling—part of the planned total of 10,510 square meters.
MMRDA Commissioner Dr. Mukherjee has called on all stakeholders to maintain momentum and meet the ambitious timelines. "This memorial is more than just a structure; it is a powerful tribute to the legacy of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar and his immense contribution to the nation," he said.
