Congress Forms New Maharashtra Executive, Gives 41% Representation To OBCs Ahead Of Civic Polls

After the drubbing in the state polls held last year, the Congress has given 41% representation to the Other Backwards Classes (OBCs) in its new state executive body. The move comes ahead of elections to the local and civic bodies across the state. There are 19% SC/ST members in the committee and 33 women, which comes to 12%.

Jumbo 387-Member Committee Announced After Six-Month Delay

After almost six months of the appointment of Harshwardhan Sapkal as the state Congress chief, the party high command gave nod to the 387-member jumbo committee. The average age of members is 51 years. The list of newly-appointed members was released by the All India Congress Committee (AICC) late on Tuesday night.

Political Affairs Committee to be Led by Ramesh Chennithala

In a significant addition, six members, who participated in Bharat Jodo Yatra, have been accommodated as the office-bearers. The party has appointed a 36-member political affairs committee, comprising senior leaders, which will be headed by state AICC in-charge Ramesh Chennithala. Abhay Chhajed from Pune will be the new treasurer. The party has appointed five spokespersons – Anant Gadgil, Atul Londhe Patil, ex-MLA Dhiraj Deshmukh, Gopal Tiwari and Sachin Sawant.

Regional Balance: Highest Weightage Given to Vidarbha at 105%

Considering the region-wise representation, the party has given 105% weightage to Vidarbha, which is the highest. For Marathwada, it is 47%, western Maharashtra 44%, Konkan 43%, north Maharashtra 22% and Mumbai 20%.

Sapkal Highlights 66% New Faces in Executive Line-Up

The team has been formed with a focus on geographic and social balance, said Sapkal, adding that there are 66% new faces in the executive team, with 33% being experienced and senior leaders.
