Keeping in mind the growing population in Badlapur and Navi Mumbai due to low budget houses availability, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has proposed two new metro corridors here. The first metro lines alignment is proposed from Badlapur to Kanjurmarg of 45 kilometres and the second alignment is proposed from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport to Navi Mumbai Airport, 33.15 kilometres.
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis in the authority meeting held at Mantralay on Wednesday approved the proposal for the two new metro corridors. The authority will now prepare a detailed project report of these two newly proposed metro corridors and later it will be present the report in the cabinet meeting for final approval.
According to the MMRDA, once these two metro lines become operational, it expects ten lakh ridership on dail basis by 2041 in Badlapur-Kanjurmarg metro line. Similarly, the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport-Navi Mumbai Airport metro line is expected to be used by eight lakh riders everyday.
An official from MMRDA said, they have planned to execute these projects on public private partnership (PPP) or SWISS challenge. “In PPP project, the MMRDA will have certain share, while in the SWISS challenge the contractor will be carry out the entire work, and they in return will get incentives like revenue earned through advertisements and ticket fare will have their control. However, that yet to be finalised,” said the official.
