MUMBAI: The Bombay High Court on Tuesday granted anticipatory bail to four councillors of Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) whose names were mentioned in the suicide note of builder Suraj Parmar who committed suicide in October alleging harassment by TMC officials and corporator. The next hearing is scheduled on December 2.
Justice Ravi K Deshpande asked the corporators to pay Rs 1 lakh surety each and deposit their mobile phones and passports to Thane police. They were also directed not to enter the premises of Thane Municipal Corporation until further court orders.
In the suicide note, Parmar had mentioned that he was facing harassment by various government departments and local councilors. They were allegedly demanding bribe to regularise his projects.
Parmar, Director of Cosmos Group, shot himself in his sample flat of an under-construction project. The police got a 13-page suicide note in which Parmar had written the problems he had faced from local civic body officials and councillors.
Parmar had written four names of corporators but he had later erased these names fearing that these councilors may bother his family in future. Forensic report revealed the four names as – NPC corporator Najib Mulla, Leader of the Opposition in TMC Hemant Jagadale, Congress councilor Vikrant Chavan and Sudhakar Chavan.
Fearing arrest, these corporators had approached the sessions court for anticipatory bail which was denied following which they moved the high court which granted them anticipatory bail on condition that they will assist the local police in the investigation.
