They’re waiting for 7 years for documents that would allow them to renovate their houses
Bhayandar : It has been more than seven years since nine villages and gaothans in Mira Bhayandar were surveyed in 2008, but their residents are still waiting to be issued Property Registration Cards (PRC) for the land, which are first needed to be tagged with the much needed City Survey (CTS) numbers.
This is despite state government directions mandating the Mira Bhayandar Municipal Corporation (MBMC) to survey and tag properties in a time-bound manner.
Although covering a substantial space in the official geographical map of the twin city, properties in 14 revenue villages and gaothans, including Navghar, Goddev, Khari, Penkarpada, Kashi Versave, Chene, Laxmi Baug, Ghodbunder, Uttan, Chowk, Pali, Dongri and Tarodi, are yet to be tagged with CTS numbers, in the absence of which villagers are not only deprived of official permissions to repair or reconstruct their ancestral homes, but a section of illiterate locals, especially those from tribal dominated areas, have become vulnerable targets for land sharks.
PRC is a conclusive record of ownership of urban property. The MBMC appointed a private land surveyor to carry out a detailed survey of all the 14 villages. However, owing to strong opposition against the move from the locals of five villages, the company managed to conduct and complete the survey of just nine villages in 2008.
