Mumbai: Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport Undertaking which is already running under losses is now incurring financial losses of Rs 6 to 7 lakh every day due to the diversion of BEST buses in view of the ongoing Metro, Mono, and road projects, causing closure of roads and bridges.

Recently, the BMC closed the Juhu Circle bridge after it was stated to be unsafe for public transporation. Therefore, the routes have been diverted and people are taking autos, taxies and private buses to travel. As a result, BEST is loosing Rs 60,000 for a bus’s fleet. Therefore, the BEST committee members demanded that BEST’s midi buses be allowed from the road near the SNDT College in Juhu.

Over past one year, the BEST buses are not allowed on the the Gokhale bridge in Andheri. Due to which the BEST buses going running on the Airport to Vile Parle have to take a long route. As a result, now the passengers on that route take other options of transportation to travel.

In the meeting of the BEST committee, the members demanded that BEST should be compensated by the administration of the projects, due to which the BEST is bearing the financial loss.
