Mumbai: Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister and senior Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Ajit Pawar died on Wednesday morning after the aircraft he was travelling in crashed while attempting to land in Baramati. The incident occurred at around 8.45 am and claimed the lives of Pawar and four others on board, officials confirmed.

Ajit Pawar was on his way to his hometown Baramati to address a public rally ahead of the upcoming Zilla Parishad elections when the crash took place. Soon after the news emerged, emotional scenes were witnessed within the Pawar family and the party.
Pawar’s nephew Yugendra Pawar was seen breaking down while speaking on the phone in public, reflecting the shock and grief caused by the sudden tragedy. Senior NCP-SP leader and former Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh also appeared visibly distressed and struggled to speak while addressing the media.
The aircraft crashed while landing in the Baramati area of Pune district. Initial reports suggested that all five occupants had suffered serious injuries, but it was later confirmed that there were no survivors. News agency PTI confirmed the death of Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar.
Details Of The Crash
According to an occurrence report by the DGCA, the aircraft involved was a Learjet 45 bearing registration number VT-SSK, operated by VSR. Preliminary information stated that five people were on board, including the pilot-in-command, the first officer and three passengers. Ajit Pawar was reportedly travelling with his personal security officer and an attendant.
The aircraft reportedly went down in an open field near Baramati airport during the landing attempt. Videos from the crash site have surfaced on social media, showing the aircraft badly damaged and engulfed in flames as emergency responders rushed to the spot.
Ajit Pawar was scheduled to address a public rally at 11 am in Baramati in connection with the Zilla Parishad elections. Following the crash, senior NCP leaders including Sharad Pawar, Supriya Sule and Sunetra Pawar rushed to Baramati.
