India is gearing up for its 79th Independence Day on August 15 with the theme “Naya Bharat,” focusing on a prosperous, secure, and self-reliant future, and paying tribute to the success of Operation Sindoor. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will lead the celebrations from the historic Red Fort in Delhi, unfurling the national flag and addressing the nation.

All about Independence Day 2025 theme

The Ministry of Defence announced on Wednesday that “Naya Bharat” has been chosen to symbolise India’s determination to achieve the government’s vision of Viksit Bharat by 2047.

"As the nation is making giant strides towards realising the Government’s vision of Viksit Bharat by 2047, the theme of this year’s celebrations is Naya Bharat," the ministry said in an official statement.

The theme reflects confidence in India’s growing economic strength, security preparedness, and development momentum.

This year’s celebrations will also honour Operation Sindoor, with its logo displayed prominently on the view cutter at Gyanpath and on the official invitation cards. The cards will also feature a watermark of the iconic Chenab Bridge, symbolising the rise of Naya Bharat. Floral decorations will follow the operation’s theme.

On August 15, PM Modi will lead India’s 79th Independence Day celebrations from the Red Fort, where he will hoist the tricolour and address the nation.

According to reports, this year, the Indian Air Force is the coordinating service, organising a ceremonial Guard of Honour, a 21-gun salute, and a special flypast showcasing both the national flag and the Operation Sindoor emblem.

PM Modi will be welcomed by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Minister of State Sanjay Seth, and Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh before the flag is unfurled to a ‘Rashtriya Salute’.
