National Dengue Day is observed annually on May 16 in India to raise awareness about dengue fever throughout the country. Dengue is a viral illness transmitted by the bite of a female Aedes mosquito. The dengue virus can be passed from an infected person to a healthy individual through Aedes mosquitoes approximately 4-5 days after the onset of symptoms.

These mosquitoes typically bite during the day, especially at dawn and dusk, making dengue a common illness in tropical and subtropical regions.

About National Dengue Day

Dengue is a viral infection that is spread by the bite of the Aedes aegypti mosquito. There are four types of dengue virus: DENV-1, DENV-2, DENV-3, and DENV-4. The same person can be infected with any of these stages of the viral disease. Dengue is diagnosed through laboratory tests and blood samples, such as the NS1 antigen test or polymerase chain reaction (PCR). There is no specific antiviral treatment for dengue. Treatment focuses on supportive care, rest, fluids, and pain relief.

What is the theme of National Dengue Day 2025

National Dengue Day is observed by the Government of India and the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. This year's theme for National Dengue Day is "Act early, stop dengue: clean environment, healthy life."
