Dispur: Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Assam on Wednesday, April 1, 2026, and began his day in Assam's Dibrugarh district. He visited a tea garden at the Monohari Tea Estate and interacted with women workers, praised the efforts of workers, before leaving for Mohanbari Airport to attend election rallies in Gogamukh and Behali. His visit highlighted the importance of Assam’s tea industry and the contribution of workers who play a crucial role in sustaining it.
PM Modi visit Dibrugarh and praise tea workers
PM Modi visited a tea garden in the poll-bound Assam and plucked tea leaves. He also interacted with 19 tea workers ahead of the Assam Assembly election, which is scheduled to be held on April 9, 2026, to elect 126 members of the Assam Legislative Assembly. During his interaction with women who were working in the tea garden, the PM appreciated the dedication and hard work of tea garden workers, acknowledging their role in making Assam tea globally recognised.
He said that the hard work and commitment of workers form the backbone of the industry and contribute significantly to the country’s economy. The Prime Minister also spent time interacting with workers, listening to their experiences and understanding their daily challenges. He also witnessed and enjoyed a traditional Jhumar dance performed by the workers.

Sharing his photos with tea workers, he wrote, "We are very proud of the efforts of each and every tea garden family. Their hard work and perseverance have enhanced Assam’s pride. PM Modi visit in Assam: A symbolic move
PM Modi, who visited Dibrugarh, was seen plucking tea leaves with a group of women dressed in traditional red-bordered sarees. PM Modi, who has often spoken about his early life, during which he helped his father sell tea at a railway station in Gujarat, makes him more connected to the people of Assam and also symbolises his rise from an ordinary background to the post of the PM. His interaction with tea garden workers also symbolises his personal connection with tea; not only that, it also acted as a strategic moment for the political landscape.

The PM, who unveiled the BJP party vision for a third consecutive term, is expected to continue his campaign engagements across the state, focusing on development, welfare initiatives, and the Centre's support to Assam's key sectors, including tea production. The state gears up for the high-stakes Assembly election on April 9.
