In a respite for Parambir Singh, the former Commissioner of Police, Mumbai, the state-appointed one member judicial commission probing the corruption allegations against the ex home minister Anil Deshmukh, on Monday cancelled the bailable warrant issued against him by the panel. The commission ordered him to pay Rs 15,000 to the Chief Minister Relief Fund - Covid19.
Singh, appeared before the commission chaired by Justice (retd.) Kailash Chandiwal, after nearly six months since he wrote a letter to the chief minister making corruption allegations against Deshmukh. He had claimed that the senior NCP leader had instructed suspended cop Sachin Waze to extort over Rs 100 crore from city's bars and restaurants.
On Monday, Singh visited the old Secretariat building, where Justice Chandiwal presides over the commission. He appeared before the panel along with his advocates and sought to cancel the bailable warrant issued against him.
Singh told the commission that he couldn't appear before it on earlier occasions owing to his poor health and other ailments.
The commission had issued the warrant after Singh failed to appear before it despite being given multiple opportunities to appear. The commission had also imposed fine thrice on him.
During the proceedings, Singh was asked to pay Rs 15,000 to cancel the arrest warrant issued against him. After the payment, the warrant was accordingly cancelled.
Meanwhile, Deshmukh is likely to appear before the commission on Tuesday and is likely to testify in the matter.
Notably, Singh has already refused to enter the witness box in these proceedings stating that he doesn't have any "first hand information" regarding the alleged corruption and that all that he wrote in his letter was merely a hearsay information.
