Ujjain’s Charvi Mehta Selected For Indian Team At 24th World Individual Chess Championship 2025

Ujjain (Madhya Pradesh): Ujjain's Charvi Mehta qualified for the 8-member team announced by the Sports Authority of India, Government of India and Chess Federation for the 24th World Individual Chess Championship-2025 and made it to the Indian team.

Four women and four men players will participate in the A category from India in the championship. At the same time, 8 women and 8 men players will participate in the B category.

The championship is set to start from July 21 and will continue till July 30 at the International Center, Dona-Pala, Goa.

In the women's team A category, Charvi Mehta of Madhya Pradesh along with Sharon Rachel Abhay, Kanishree P of Tamil Nadu and Khadija Fatema of Telangana were selected.

Ujjayini Chess Association President Sandeep Kulshrestha and Secretary Mahavir Jain gave information that Charvi, studying in class 10th in Kendriya Vidyalaya, is the first player from the state who has made the city and state proud by representing India in the Asian Para Games.

The championship will be organized in the Swiss method as per the rules of the World Chess Federation. Charvi is the daughter of International Mallakhamb Umpire and Vikram and Vishwamitra Award winner Dr. Ashish Mehta and Engineer Taru Shri Mehta.

Her recent achievements include a fourth-place finish in both chess formats at the Asian Para Games in China. She also got the pride of being the national champion in the women's category in 3 consecutive National Para Chess Championships.

Her selection marks a proud moment for Ujjain and the entire state of Madhya Pradesh.
