Indore (Madhya Pradesh): Two sub-inspectors (SIs) from Delhi Police have been arrested from the city for their alleged involvement in siphoning off ₹75 lakh from cybercrime case recoveries in northeast Delhi.

An internal investigation began after irregularities were found during routine audits at the Cyber Police Station.

A special team led by inspector Rahul tracked down the prime suspect, SI Ankur Malik, who had been missing since March 19. Malik was using encrypted apps and frequently changing SIM cards to avoid detection. He was finally caught in from a township on Sanwer Road in the city on July 18, along with a woman accomplice—also a Delhi Police SI.

The raid of Delhi Police on their rented flat in the city led to the recovery of ₹12 lakh in cash, gold coins and jewellery, multiple phones, a laptop, and incriminating documents.

Data analysis revealed that the group used mule bank accounts to launder the stolen money. Based on Malik’s interrogation, three more people—Mohammad Ilyaas, Arif, and Shadab, all from northeast Delhi were arrested for providing their bank accounts in exchange for a cut of the money.

Delhi Police officials believe the accused were planning to settle down permanently in Indore. However, further investigations are underway into the case.  ( With agency inputs)
