Sanawad (Madhya Pradesh): Members of the Sanawad Vikas Sangharsh Samiti have raised concern over the increasing traffic on Indore – Icchapur state highway resulting in frequent road accidents. Samiti members demanded action against guilty people including RTO, police, bus drivers, conductors and bus owners.

They quoted an example of a recent bus accident in which five passengers lost their lives and as many as 47 were injured after a passenger bus moving from Burhanpur to Indore plunged into the 50 feet deep gorge at Bherughat while overtaking the truck moving ahead. Members claimed that the bus driver drove their vehicles at high speed as their owners set a target before them.

Besides, drivers, conductors and bus owners, police and RTO are equally responsible as the authorities failed to check vehicle speed and allow unfit vehicles to ply. The competent authority must act on the matter and take relevant steps to curb such road mishaps in future.

Samiti members including Dr Rajendra Palod, Zakir Hussain and others asked the responsible officials of the National Highway Authorities whether this road is usable?

The members have alleged that authorities have turned a blind eye towards road maintenance as the road condition is very pathetic and hundreds of potholes have developed in the past four years. Committee members said that many social organisations in the town are ready to lend their support to improve the road.
