Nagda (Ujjain district, Madhya Pradesh): The cement-concrete road to be built by the municipality at a cost of Rs 1.5 crore to connect Padalya Road directly with State Highway-17 has been mired in controversy.
Former municipality chairman Ashok Malviya has accused municipality officials of colluding with colonisers to build the road without permission of municipality. However, public representatives of ruling party and the opposition want the road to be constructed.
According to the information, a new road was being constructed by municipality to connect State Highway-17 directly with Padalya Road, which included construction of culvert.
The construction of the road was to benefit people 10 residential colonies. The work of levelling the site for road construction was also started. However, the construction was stopped due to objection raised by Malviya who said proposal to construct road was cancelled by municipality.
Four farmers - Kanhaiyalal Chandravanshi, Jeevan Singh Chandravanshi, Mohanlal Chandravanshi, and Arjun Singh Chandravanshi - donated their land for the road, which is 1500 feet long and 8 metres wide.
On May 28, Malviya had sent a letter to municipality officer stating that the road is being built on agricultural land. The intention is that owners of the land next to the road will earn profit and colonisers can sell the land at high prices in future. “This project will cause loss to municipality exchequer,” he stated in the letter.
Malviya also said there is collusion between private land owners and municipality officers. He said municipality passed several proposals for city’s development but the officials are not considering them.
