Mundi (Madhya Pradesh): A leopard was seen walking across the ridge at Sant Singaji Thermal Power Project. The animal’s movements were clearly observed from Singhaji Power Plant to Bhurlay village and forest. According to information, forest and the project department are continuously monitoring its whereabouts through CCTV cameras installed at project premises.

The residents of Bhurlay and neighbouring villages are also alert due to fear of sudden leopard attack. The forest department confirmed the footprints of leopards around the power plant. While investigating the matter, a Bhurlay resident and farmer stated that, four days ago he noticed a wild animal's bite behind the ear of his bull.

In this regard, a panchnama has been prepared by the forest department. Now farmers are not going alone to their fields and are avoiding leaving home at night. Movement of the leopard seems to have been traced in the forest. The forest department team is deployed to catch the animal. Notably, the rescue team which was supposed to come from Pachmarhi has yet not arrived.

Thermal power plants score over hydro projects

Most of the power is being generated from thermal power plants rather than hydroelectric projects because of the water shortage, which is present in the state. A minimum power of 1600 MW is being generated by four units from Sant Singaji Thermal Power Project. Due to demand in peak hours, 2200 MW of electricity production is being carried out by the company.

On Monday, water level in the Indira Sagar Project was reported as 247.07 metre, which was 247 metre on June 30. Similarly, water level in Omkareshwar Hydroelectric Power Project has been reported as 193.83 metres. Notably, the water level in the upper area of both the hydroelectric projects has not been increased yet and operators are waiting for a proper monsoon season.
