Indore (Madhya Pradesh): In a continuous effort to innovate for tourists, Madhya Pradesh State Tourism Development Corporation (MPSTDC) is set to expand water activities in Indore region’s Hanuwantiya and Gandhi Sagar.

The tourism department has planned to introduce mini cruises at both locations, with proposals already in place. To enhance the visitor experience and add new attractions, the department had recently sought suggestions for innovative ideas. As a result, the proposal to introduce mini cruises has been approved.

The department, which already runs boat clubs in these regions, has placed orders for five speed boats and two mini cruises. These will be operated at locations like Bhopal, Mandla, Sailani island and others. While Gandhi Sagar is set to get a new mini cruise, Hanuwantiya will get an upgraded version, replacing the old mini cruise that is already operational there.

According to officials, both mini cruises will be sourced from Hyderabad. Each mini cruise is estimated to cost around Rs 35 to Rs 40 lakh. The department is also considering similar proposals for other sites such as Gangrel Dam, Dhar’s Kushalgarh and some locations in Gwalior. Additionally, plans are underway to introduce a new boat club at Upper Lake in Bhopal, with tenders being finalised.

Previously, Indore region had requested the addition of new boats and cruises at locations like Sailani and the boat club in Choral. These areas, known for their water-based tourism activities, already attract significant tourist footfall. However, due to wear and tear, some of the older boats have become outdated, leading to the demand for new ones.
