Mhow (Madhya Pradesh): The Imam of Jama Masjid in Madhya Pradesh’s Mhow has clarified on the violent clash that erupted between two groups on Sunday night after India’s win over New Zealand.

According to the Imam, a prayer was going on in Mhow’s Jama Masjid on Sunday night, the same time when India won the match and citizens started celebrating with firecrackers. During the same, one of the fire crackers (sutli bomb) fell inside the masjid leaving people intimidated.

This made the people retaliate and pelt stones at the procession. Later, the matter escalated into a violent clash.

Speaking to the media, the Imam said, "Taraweeh prayers were in progress when a procession passed by, making noise. As the prayers concluded and people were coming out, someone threw a Sutli bomb inside the mosque which created smoke all around. This created panic among the people, which ultimately led to a violent clash."

‘How did the procession end-up in this route?’

After his statement, the Imam questioned how the procession ended up in front of Jama Masjid.

“I don’t understand how the procession came to this street, who gave them permission. And if they had permission from the police, how many people and vehicles were allowed…,” he added.

Later, he also alleged that he and the other party decided to sort the matter out at the police station, however, the other party started pelting stones at the other party and the matter grew gruesome.

Officials have urged people to stay calm and not believe in rumors spreading on socia media. Authorities are also monitoring CCTV footage to identify those responsible for the attack.

Local residents have demanded strict action against the miscreants involved in the violence. Meanwhile, the police have assured that they are taking all necessary steps to maintain peace and order in Mhow.
