Dhar (Madhya Pradesh): The students of Ukala High school and middle school at Ukala in Tirla development blocks in Dhar district are forced to risk their lives to access classroom education.
The government has made allocations for the education of the tribal children of Tirla development block of Gandhwani tehsil near Ukala but the children aren’t able to avail benefits of the same as their path to school is riddles with danger.
The little children have to cross the nearby Ukala river which is currently in spate due to the inflow from the Kheda dam. Adding more woe to their agony, the culvert over the river doesn’t even have railings or any other safety measures so the kids are left to fend for themselves on their way to school.
The lack of basic infrastructure has worsened the already sad condition of education that was being received by the children of the tribal region. The teachers too do not have means to teach them from home.
Rakesh Bhoora, a local social worker said that demands of a railing being placed on the bridge and to increase the height of the culvert have been put forth to the government.
Kids are forced to cross the bridge with their bags on their heads. The daily toil of getting wet is affecting the physical and mental health of the children.
