Indore: Want to join Indian Air Force? Get ready for common admission test

Indore (Madhya Pradesh): To fulfil their dream of joining Indian Air Force, aspirants can apply for Air Force Common Admission Test (AFCAT), which will be held from August 28-30, 2021, at several centres in the country.

The test is flying, technical, administration and education branch.

To register, aspirants will be required to visit website https://afcat.cdac.in/AFCAT. The website has notifications, criteria, instructions to apply online, said Colonel (retired) Nikhil Diwanji, who imparts training for AFCAT and Services Selection Board in Indore.

For flying branch, physics, chemistry and maths in class 12 is mandatory and for technical branch B Tech / BE degree is required. Candidates who are now in final year of college or have obtained degree with minimum 60% marks can apply.

AFCAT requirement

An aspirant should be tall, that is, above 162.5 cm with a good percentage in physics, chemistry and maths in class 12 and required degree. He should meet the age criteria for AFCAT and flying branch.

Aspirants should read standards and syllabus of the examination on page 15 of notification and fill the online application carefully.

How to prepare?

Study for AFCAT in depth and not merely to pass the test because to derive the final merit, AFCAT marks are taken into account.

AFCAT is a national level exam for selection in Group A. After clearing the five-day Services Selection Board interview, medical tests, one enters final merit list. The results are declared by September end.

For technical branch, clear EKT first

The engineers who apply for technical branch have to clear EKT (Engineering Knowledge Test) also in their specified discipline. After six-month training in AFA, candidate will be shifted to Air Force Technical College in Bengaluru.

The flying branch cadets will either be selected for flying fighter planes or transport aircrafts or helicopters depending on their flying proficiency and scores in all three pre flying tests.

The education branch officers after training will be posted in education department of IAF and will be instructors of their subjects in various training establishments of IAF.
