Indore: With the second wave of Covid-19 playing havoc in the country, University Grants Commission has asked higher education institutions (HEIs) to adopt SWAYAM courses for credit transfer, and encourage more and more students to enrol in these courses to ensure uninterrupted teaching and learning for students.

SWAYAM platform offers Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs)

The higher education regulator said that UGC (Credit Framework for Online Learning Courses through Study Webs of Active Learning for Young Aspiring Minds) Regulations-2021 has an enabling provision for an institution to allow up to 40 per cent of the total courses offered through the SWAYAM platform.

UGC secretary Rajnish Jain said “SWAYAM courses may be approved and adopted on the recommendation of dean academics/heads of department for credit transfer and ratified by the Academic Council.”

In the current scenario of the second wave of the Covid-19, universities and colleges should make optimum use of the SWAYAM online platform for the benefit of the students/learners.

As many 83 UG & 40 PG MOOCS courses would be offered from the SWAYAM platform from July-October Semester 2021.

“Looking at the current COVID 19 pandemic scenario, the universities and colleges should popularise these SWAYAM courses amongst students and faculty through websites and various social media handles,” Jain said.
