Indore (Madhya Pradesh): More than 70 traffic violators were made to do ‘Shramdaan’ (voluntary service towards community welfare, involving physical effort) by the traffic police for an hour on Monday. The people who were caught breaking traffic rules were asked to temporarily take on the role of directing traffic flow at the busy squares, as a form of community service and to educate them about the importance of following traffic laws.

This is often a punishment for minor traffic violations, allowing the violators to experience firsthand the challenges of managing traffic and understand the impact of their actions on others. The traffic police also educated commuters to wear helmets and seat belts while driving and appealed to them to not drink and drive and follow traffic rules.

DCP (Traffic) Arvind Tiwari has instructed all his subordinates to make better arrangements for smooth flow of traffic. On Monday, traffic officials received information that some e-rickshaws and auto rickshaws were obstructing traffic in the no parking area outside the railway station in Siyaganj area.

A team under traffic police station in-charge Vijaykant Shukla and Inspector Amita Singh reached the spot and took strict action against owners of more than 100 vehicles including e-rickshaws and autos for obstructing traffic and resuming the traffic smoothly. The drivers were instructed not to obstruct traffic by parking vehicles in no parking area and cooperate in traffic management.
