Indore (Madhya Pradesh): The training programme of polling personnel for the Indore Municipal Corporation elections began on Tuesday and will continue till July 1. On Day 1, training was imparted to 1,000 employees and officers. Show-cause notices were issued to 83 members of the staff for being absent during the training on the day.
The facility of voting on the basis of election duty certificate (EDC) given to employees engaged in election work also started on Tuesday. On the first day today, drivers, policemen and Home Guard personnel took part in the voting.
Collector and District Election Officer Manish Singh has directed that all officers and employees deployed for polling work should compulsorily participate in this training programme. Action will be taken against those who are absent from training. The training programme is being organised at Holkar Science College. On Tuesday, the training programme was conducted in one session from 10 am to 1 pm. At this training programme, the polling personnel were explained the process of conducting elections in a fearless, fair, peaceful and transparent manner. They were told about their rights and duties. Besides being given information about election-related rules and instructions, they were also informed about the use of electronic voting machines (EVMs) and mock polls.
According to the schedule, from June 29, the training programme will be organised in two sessions every day. The first training session will be held from 10 am to 1 pm and the second session from 2 pm to 5 pm. Every day, 2,800 polling personnel will be trained.
Voting process begins
Anshul Khare, officer-in-charge of conducting postal ballot voting, said the process of voting started on Tuesday on the basis of election duty certificate. On the first day, drivers, policemen and Home Guard personnel engaged in election work took part. Ballot boxes were arranged assistant returning officer-wise. Fourteen teams have been formed for the voting arrangements. The voting process will continue till July 1.
