Indore (Madhya Pradesh): The district court, on Thursday, sentenced a man to life imprisonment for murdering a woman while committing robbery in her house. The court punished the accused Sonu (41) under Section 302 and other sections of the IPC. The verdict was delivered by the 17th additional sessions judge Rupam Bedi in connection with a crime registered at Palasia police station.

The prosecution of the case was led by additional public prosecutor Gokul Singh Sisodia. The incident occurred on May 31, 2016, when Rajkumari Kataria, a resident of Vaikunth Dham, Indore, was alone at home. An unknown accused entered her house with the intention of committing robbery and ended up murdering her.

The victim's family informed the Palasia police, which registered a case and initiated an investigation. During the investigation, the police collected physical evidence, including three buttons from a shirt found at the crime scene. Based on the gathered evidence and statements of witnesses, Sonu was arrested on suspicion.

Upon interrogation, he confessed to the crime, admitting that he killed the victim during the robbery. Further investigation led to the arrest of another accused, Sachin, who revealed that he had disposed of Sonu's shirt and the murder weapon (a knife) in a drain.

The police recovered the knife and shirt based on his disclosure statement. Given the heinous and sensational nature of the crime, the case was marked as a serious offense and was reviewed monthly by the court to ensure a speedy trial.
