Indore (Madhya Pradesh): An FIR has been registered against Indore-based influencer Prakriti Gaur after a video allegedly showing her lying on a zebra crossing at a traffic signal went viral on social media.
Tukoganj police summoned Gaur to the police station for questioning and subsequently registered a case against her under Sections 270 and 285 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Police also seized her mobile phone as part of the investigation.
After the video sparked criticism online, Gaur released another video expressing regret over the incident. She claimed that some people were presenting her video out of context.
According to Gaur, the incident was not intentional and she did not violate traffic rules while filming the video. She said she would be more careful while shooting videos in public places in the future.
Police launched an investigation after the video circulated widely on social media. The police’s social media monitoring cell identified the video uploaded on Instagram on Friday.
Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police Rajesh Dandotiya said the viral footage appeared to show a violation of traffic rules.
The matter was also examined under preventive orders issued by Police Commissioner Santosh Kumar Singh concerning social media content.
Dandotiya said the Police Commissioner regularly issues guidelines to regulate social media content and FIRs are registered when these instructions are violated.
He added that action can also be taken against people who violate traffic rules, endanger their own or others’ lives, or disrupt traffic.
Police said strict action would be taken against anyone found violating the rules, irrespective of whether the person is a social media influencer.
