Indore (Madhya Pradesh): Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya (DAVV) appointed retired government officers as observers for its law exams, a move inspired by the Madhya Pradesh Public Service Commission (MPPSC).

Students were taken by surprise as they saw elderly officials arriving at exam centres with bundles of question papers. The law exams, which began on Monday, were conducted at nine colleges serving as exam centres across the city.

Wearing ID badges and carrying official seals provided by the university, the retired officers collected sealed question paper bundles from designated police stations. Upon reaching the exam centres, these bundles were opened in their presence by centre superintendents before being distributed to students under their supervision.

The officers remained stationed at the centres throughout the exams, ensuring smooth conduct. Their duties concluded only after answer sheets were collected, sealed and secured. Exam Controller Prof. Ashesh Tiwari hailed the initiative as a resounding success, stating that no instance of malpractice or mismanagement was reported from any of the centres.

DAVV has engaged around 30 retired officials from various departments, including BSNL, police, district administration, finance, women and child development, treasury and banks. Before deployment, these observers underwent specialised training and were provided with a 15-point checklist to follow. With the law exams running smoothly, DAVV plans to extend this system to UG final-year exams starting April 2.
