Indore (Madhya Pradesh): After the Madhya Pradesh High Court ordered dismantling of Indore BRTS, Indore Municipal Corporation started removing the lane’s railings from Friday night at around 11:30 pm.

In the first phase of the operation, around 100 meters of railing was removed from GPO to Shivaji Vatika. A team of 50 municipal officials and workers gathered at GPO Square to start the work which lasted for 7 hours, until 6 am on Saturday morning.

According to Mayor Pushyamitra Bhargav, “The 11-km-long BRTS corridor is removed, traffic bottlenecks will no longer exist, and the road will be expanded to 60 meters wide. Government buildings that obstruct the road will also be shifted to allow smoother traffic flow. Buses will operate on both sides of the road.”

ibuses will continue to run

The mayor assured that bus services will continue to run despite BRTS removal. The city plans to expand its intercity bus network, with a target of 900 buses. So far, 500 buses have been approved with the help of the central and state governments, and efforts are being made to add 400 more.

Three bus stops to be effected

Between Shivaji Vatika and Navlakha Square, three bus stations will be affected. Though dividers and railings are being removed, these stations will not be dismantled immediately. Temporary barricades will be placed to assist passengers while they board and exit buses.

New bus station to be built

New bus stations will be built near the old BRTS stops to ensure passengers have easy access to tickets and transport. Bus stands will also be constructed on both sides of the road, improving connectivity with e-rickshaws and other local transport.
