Indore (Madhya Pradesh): Praising Indore’s economic progress, former union minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said here on Saturday that Indore was among the top cities of the country and its economy was continuously becoming stronger.
Addressing an event on the Union and State Budgets 2025-26 alongside state cabinet minister Kailash Vijayvargiya at the Brilliant Convention Centre, he stressed on India’s economic stability and said, “Amidst global economic turbulence, India remains stable. The IMF and the World Bank both project that India’s economy will grow by 6.5-7% in 2024-25, solidifying India’s position as a major economic powerhouse. Under the Modi government, India has progressed from being among the five weakest economies to ranking among the top five globally.”
He highlighted the Modi government’s efforts in job creation, acknowledging that while the government could not provide jobs to everyone, it was actively generating employment opportunities. He also noted that young entrepreneurs were earning millions through startups and creating jobs for others.
Speaking about the Union Budget, Prasad said, “The union budget plays a crucial role in realising the vision of a ‘Developed India’ and empowering every section of society. This budget will be a milestone in the welfare of farmers, the poor, youth, and women. The double-engine NDA government in Madhya Pradesh has presented a budget that balances economic growth, social inclusion and public welfare.” State ministers, MPs, local representatives, business leaders and a large number of intellectuals were present in the event.
On Rahul’s remarks on meritocracy
On Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s comments on the merit system in India, Prasad said, “Rahul Gandhi has claimed that there is no such thing as a merit system in this country. My first question to him is: by what qualification has he become the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha? Rahul Gandhi does not do his homework. His tutor should be changed so that he gets the correct information about India.”
On Justice Yashwant Verma case
Responding to a question about the Justice Yashwant Verma case, Prasad said, “The nation expects judges to uphold integrity, honesty, and transparency. We fully support judicial independence. The Supreme Court is handling the matter as per the established process.”
